Cincinnati Reds manager Terry Francona said the club would have to monitor Hunter Greene after the Washington Nationals' C.J. Abrams rocketed a shot off Greene's back during his start Friday May 2.
The Reds checked in with Greene on Saturday, and they understand him to be good, Francona said during his pre-game meeting with reporters in his office at Great American Ball Park.

"He's good. He said (he's), like, three out of 10 which, we'll take it," Francona said. "We think we maybe dodged a big bullet there."
The contact Abrams made was measured off the bat at 96.6 mph, and the ball found Greene's upper back area.
The ball then dribbled to the left of the pitcher's mound.
Greene said after his 12-strikeout gem against the Nationals that he was trying to throw Abrams out after he was struck by the ball. And when Reds staffers came out to the mound to check up on him, Greene indicated he shooed them away.
"When they came out to the mound, I just told them I need to keep moving," Greene said. "The more that I sit or the more that I continue to talk, the tighter it's gonna get... The thought never crossed my mind of coming out of the game."
Even after taking the comebacker, Greene went on to pitch six innings in one of his best outings of the seven starts he's made so far in 2025.
