The Rochester Red Wings erased a six-run deficit and walked off the Syracuse Mets 9-8 in 11 innings Friday at ESL Ballpark.
Phillip Glasser's RBI single to right scored Riley Adams with one out in the 11th, ending a back-and-forth game that pushed the Red Wings to 33-21.
The Mets appeared in control after a seven-run third inning against starter Jackson Kent. Jackson Cluff's RBI single and Nick Morabito's two-run double put Syracuse in front before Christian Arroyo hit a three-run homer and Ryan Clifford followed with a solo shot for a 7-1 lead.
Rochester's offense answered quickly to make the early hole manageable. In the bottom of the third, Abimelec Ortiz singled and Andrew Pinckney homered, and an inning later Robert Hassell III doubled ahead of Trey Lipscomb's two-run homer to cut the deficit to 7-5. The Red Wings' bullpen then took over, as five relievers combined to allow just one run on three hits over the final 7 1/3 innings.
Yohandy Morales powered the comeback in the late innings. In the seventh, after Harry Ford's one-out walk, Morales tied the game 7-7 with a two-run homer to right. Syracuse briefly reclaimed the lead when Ji Hwan Bae singled, stole second and scored on Kevin Parada's RBI double in the eighth, but Morales answered again.
With two outs in the ninth against Dylan Ross, the Red Wings pulled even when Morales hit a solo homer to center, his second of the night and 12th of the season, to force extra innings. Luke Young then worked two scoreless extra frames, striking out two to earn the win and keeping Syracuse's automatic runner stranded in both the 10th and 11th.
In the 11th, Adams started at second and advanced when Parada's pickoff throw went away. Glasser, who entered as a pinch-runner for Ortiz in the ninth, knocked a ground-ball single to right to bring home Adams and complete the win.
Morales finished 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBIs and three extra-base hits. Lipscomb went 3-for-5 with a double and a homer, Pinckney added a two-run shot as part of a two-hit night and Glasser delivered the walk-off RBI.
