WORCESTER — Roman Anthony was removed from Triple-A Worcester’s game Friday night.

The Red Sox’ top prospect fouled a ball off his right foot or ankle during his first at-bat against the Syracuse Mets at Polar Park — prompting WooSox manager Chad Tracy and trainer Nick Kuchwara to check on the Worcester leadoff hitter.

Anthony stayed in the game and singled before scoring a run and returning to center field for four more innings. In the top of the sixth, however, Anthony was pulled from the game. Anthony looked to be hobbled following his foul ball in the first.

The 20-year-old outfielder served as designated hitter for the WooSox for nine straight games — starting on April 11 — due to right shoulder soreness before returning to the outfield on Wednesday.

Two days later, another injury concern popped up for Anthony. Coming into Friday’s game, Anthony was hitting .308 with 5 home runs and 14 RBI.
