The Boston Red Soxhaven't had many home wins this season, but Wednesday's 8-0 rout of the Atlanta Braves was easily their biggest.
Wednesday's blowout was just the Red Sox's ninth win in 27 games at Fenway Park this season. However, their eight runs matched a season high at home. It was also Boston's biggest margin of victory at home this year, and it came against the team with the best record in baseball.
The Red Sox snapped their four-game losing streak with their most runs in a game since May 5. Six of them scored in the fourth inning as Boston batted around, knocking Braves starter Bryce Elder out of the game.
Impressively, the Red Sox didn't have an extra-base hit in the frame. All of their runs scored on singles or errors except for their last one, when the red-hot Jarren Duran smashed a solo homer as an exclamation point on his four-hit evening.
It was a true team effort and a complete win for Boston. Every starter notched at least one hit, collecting 15 in all.
Meanwhile, the Red Sox's pitching staff returned to form after a couple of rough outings. Connelly Early was terrific with seven scoreless innings and seven strikeouts in Boston's first shutout win since May 8.
The Red Sox will go for their first series win at home since early April on Thursday against former Boston ace Chris Sale. The Red Sox will counter with their own star lefty in Payton Tolle, setting up a potential pitcher's duel at Fenway.
