The Boston Red Sox are making a roster move for today's game against the Minnesota Twins.

Last night, Garrett Crochet had by far the worst start of his career, allowing 10 earned runs, including two home runs, in just 1.2 innings in a 13-6 loss against the Twins.

For extra bullpen depth, Boston has promoted right-hander Jack Anderson from Triple-A Worcester, reports Ari Alexander of 7News. Anderson is not on the 40-man roster, indicating the Red Sox must make an additional roster move to clear space.

Anderson, 26, is a former 36th-round draft pick of the New York Yankees in 2018, but opted to attend Florida State University instead. The Detroit Tigers selected Anderson in the 16th round in 2021, and Boston used one of their 2024 Rule 5 Draft picks to add him to its system.

"Anderson’s call-up comes on the heels of a disastrous start from ace Garrett Crochet, where he lasted just 1 2/3 innings before departing the game. That left Jovani Moran, Tyler Samaniego, and Ryan Watson to each handle two-plus innings of work, depleting the bullpen of long relief talent," Nick Deeds of MLB Trade Rumors wrote Tuesday.

"Barring a surprise injury for Crochet, it seems reasonable to expect that Anderson will be joining the roster in place of one of those long relief arms."

In two starts at Triple-A, Anderson posted a 3.72 ERA with nine strikeouts and three walks in 9.2 innings. He made one start for Great Britain at the World Baseball Classic.
