Boston (27-35) opened a three-game series against the Yankees (37-26) on Friday. The Red Sox won the series opener, 5-3, at Yankee Stadium in Bronx, New York.

Ahead of first pitch on Friday, Boston transferred pitcher Garrett Crochet from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list due to left shoulder inflammation.

The former Vol last pitched on April 25 at Baltimore, earning his third win of the season. He pitched six innings, recording seven strikeouts and 90 pitches (57 strikes) against 22 batters. The left-handed pitcher allowed three hits, two walks and zero runs.

Crochet played at Tennessee from 2018-20. He was selected by the White Sox in the 2020 MLB draft (No. 11 overall).

Chicago traded Crochet to the Red Sox on Dec. 13, 2024. He was traded for catcher Kyle Teel (No. 25 overall prospect), outfielder Braden Montgomery (No. 54 overall), infielder Chase Meidroth (Boston's No. 11 prospect) and Wikelman Gonzalez (Boston's No. 14 prospect).
