Red Sox Continue To Be Linked To Astros' Two-Time All-Star Slugger originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
It's no secret that the Boston Red Sox's offense needs improvement after scoring the second-fewest runs in baseball this season.
The Red Sox are already making calls around the league, earlier than ever, to see which players will be available ahead of the trade deadline, and the team reportedly prefers to add a right-handed batter, regardless of position, before the deadline.
One player that the Red Sox should consider trading for is Houston Astros star third baseman, Isaac Paredes. Boston reportedly discussed a trade with Houston after losing Alex Bregman in free agency this offseason, but later acquired Caleb Durbin in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers instead.
ESPN's David Schoenfield released a column on options the Astros have moving forward after opening the season 21-31, and continues to list the Red Sox as a potential trade partner for Paredes as the team looks to add a right-handed bat.
"Isaac Paredes," Schoenfield wrote on Friday. "He's also under team control through 2027 and is a year younger than (Jeremy Peña). Paredes is playing third base because (Carlos Correa) is injured, but there isn't really room for Paredes, Correa and (Christian Walker) anyway, especially with (Yordan Álvarez) and Altuve needing to be the DH. The Phillies, Reds and Red Sox would all be potential trade partners."
Paredes is slashing .244/.335/.375 with five home runs and 20 runs batted in. The 27-year-old has mashed 19 or more home runs in each of the past four seasons, and would give the Red Sox's lineup more power from the right side, which it desperately needs.
If the Red Sox are looking to add a solid right-handed bat, Paredes may be one of the best options available ahead of the trade deadline.
