The Boston Red Sox surged before the All-Star break, winning nine consecutive games.

A remarkable turnaround has the AL East club less than a game behind the Minnesota Twins and Seattle Mariners for the third and final AL Wild Card spot.

Suddenly, the Red Sox are destined to be buyers at the trade deadline.

Boston's front office has already begun to make additions to the roster.

According to The Boston Globe's Alex Speier, the Red Sox have acquired outfielder Jahmai Jones from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for a player to be named later.

The Tigers DFA'd Jones last week. After a strong year at the plate in 2025, the 28-year-old hit .137/.219/.221 with just two home runs and a .440 OPS in 57 games before the trade.

Detroit mostly utilized the former New York Yankee as a fourth outfielder, giving him the majority of his at-bats against left-handed pitching.

One hundred twenty-two of his 150 plate appearances came against southpaws last season. He hit .288 with a .970 OPS in those opportunities.

Jones' year-to-year strikeout rate has jumped from 21.3% to 33.3%. His walk rate has also lowered by 2.5%.

But the Red Sox are taking a chance that his struggles in Detroit can be tweaked with a few mechanical adjustments. He has no minor league options remaining.

This is Boston's first move in what should be a busy trade deadline for the unexpectedly competitive postseason contender.
