The Boston Red Sox have dealt with a series of key injuries this season, but should be getting some reinforcements in the near future.

Boston's season has not gone as the team expected after a busy offseason spent bolstering the roster. The Red Sox have struggled this season, and losing Roman Anthony, Garrett Crochet and Trevor Story for extended time has hurt the team.

Despite sitting at 31-44, the Red Sox still have a chance to make the postseason, and having their stars return would give them a big boost down the stretch. Story, who's missed over a month after undergoing surgery for a sports hernia, is "progressing pretty nicely," according to interim manager Chad Tracy.

“He’s actually progressing pretty nicely,” Tracy said on Thursday, per MassLive's Chris Cotillo. “Let’s call it ‘running,’ it’s not full-bore sprinting, but he’s jogging at a pretty good pace. He has actually swung a bat off a tee a little bit. He’s got a ways to go but he’s in a better spot than I’d figure I’d see him at this point. He’s making pretty good steps.”

Story's rehab process appears to be going well, and the 33-year-old shared that he's right on schedule from his initial timeline following his surgery, which would have him returning right around the All-Star break.

“We’re right on schedule, doing it the way we want to do it,” Story said, per Cotillo. “I’m excited about that. We’re still trying to shoot for that, what I said the first time, 8-12 weeks. I think it’s just important to do it right this first time. From guys that I’ve talked to, and our surgeon, too. Get it right the first time so you don’t have to deal with it down the road.”

Story experienced his best year as a member of the Red Sox last season, but has struggled at the plate this season, slashing .206/.244/.303 with three home runs and 19 runs batted in. Even still, the veteran shortstop's return should give the Red Sox's offense a much-needed boost.
