Red Sox 1B prospect hits hotel with 453-foot, 113 mph homer; Franklin Arias belts 18th blast

Red Sox power-hitting first base prospect Brooks Brannon’s home run traveled so far Thursday that it hit the Hilton Garden Inn beyond left field at New Hampshire’s Delta Dental Stadium.

Brannon’s blast went 453 feet with a 113 mph exit velocity in Double-A Portland’s 15-8 loss to New Hampshire.


Brannon has 13 home runs in 52 games. He’s tied with three others for the fourth-most home runs among Red Sox minor league hitters. It wasn’t even his farthest this season. He had a 464-foot, 115 mph home run June 7 against Reading.


Prospects Enddy Azocar (High-A Greenville) hit his 10th home run Thursday, becoming the 13th player in the Red Sox system with double-digit home runs.

Brannon, who turned 22 on May 4, is batting .277 with a .371 on-base percentage, .560 slugging percentage and .931 OPS in 224 plate appearances. In addition to his 13 home runs, he has 13 doubles, one triple, 45 RBIs, 27 walks and 67 strikeouts.

Azocar, who Baseball America ranks Boston’s No. 6 prospect, now has 36 extra-base hits. In addition to his 10 home runs, the 19-year-old outfielder has hit 21 doubles and five triples between Low-A Salem and High-A Greenville.

Justin Gonzales also homered Thursday in Greenville’s 5-4 win over Greensboro. It was his 11th blast in 67 games.

Baseball America ranks the 19-year-old outfielder/first baseman Boston’s No. 5 overall prospect.

Franklin Arias, Boston’s No. 1 prospect, crushed his system-leading 18th home run in Portland’s loss.

Arias, who Baseball America ranks the game’s No. 3 overall prospect on its Top 100 list, is batting .330 with a .414 on-base percentage, .605 slugging percentage and 1.019 OPS in 69 games (304 plate appearances). The 20-year-old shortstop has 35 extra-base hits (18 home runs, 16 doubles and one triple).


He will play in the 2026 All-Star Futures Game on Sunday at 12 p.m. at Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park.
