The Los Angeles Angels may finally decide to sell come 2026’s trade deadline, and shortstop Zach Neto is one of their several interesting pieces as Aug. 3 nears.
A long list of teams would be interested in Neto, who has become one of the Angels’ best players over the last couple of seasons, but the Boston Red Sox havemage their intent clear well before this summer. Boston showed interest in Neto during the winter, per The Athletic, and still see him as a good fit for their team.
Neto is an extremely controllable asset for the Angels, and would command quite the fee if the Halos were to ship him out this summer. He still has three years of team control left, and a team like the Red Sox would be desperate to bring him in at a crucial point of their season.
The Red Sox won 15 games in a row before their loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday, propelling them back into the playoff picture after owning the worst record in the American League earlier in the year.

Trevor Story played the majority of games for the Red Sox before his injury, though he generally underperformed up until that point. Normally he and Marcelo Mayer would split time there, but their injuries have brought Tsung-Che Cheng and Andruw Monasterio to the forefront.
According to The Athletic, the Red Sox don’t view either player as an everyday player.
Story is only under control for one more season after 2026, with a team option for 2028—though the Red Sox likely won’t exercise that option if he continues to struggle upon his return.
Neto, 25, would be an upgrade at shortstop for a majority of the teams in MLB. He hasn’t quite performed up to the standards of his last two seasons, but has 19 homers and 46 RBIs regardless.
He’s only batting .238, several ticks down from where his career average is, but still has a .772 OPS, which would be the second-best of his career.
The Angels certainly would like to avoid trading Neto, as owner Arte Moreno seems allergic to rebuilding, but a good enough package from the Red Sox could force thir hand.
