The Wolverines are in the midst of a recruiting heater, landing a few top targets over the past week. Four-star wide receiver Quentin Burrell, four-star running back Tyson Robinson and four-star defensive lineman Xavier Muhammad are just a few of Michigan’s recent commitments, and things are only going to heat up even more with official visits set to take place beginning next week.
Speaking of that, we begin today’s Recruiting Roundup with a prospect Michigan is hoping to host on an official visit sometime in June.
Michigan trying to land official visit for top CB target
The Wolverines’ new coaching staff has been pretty aggressive on the recruiting trail over the last few months, and that is especially so for 2027 five-star Joshua Dobson. New cornerbacks coach Jernaro Gilford has been prioritizing Dobson ever since he got the job in Ann Arbor, going to visit him in January and then hosting Dobson and his grandmother for an unofficial visit last month.
The next step is trying to get on his official visit schedule. The bad news is that schedule is already full, as he has trips planned for Auburn, Texas A&M, LSU and South Carolina. The good news is that Dobson sounds very open to replacing one of those schools with Michigan.
“That’s going to come up soon,” Dobson recently told On3’s Ethan McDowell ($). “(Michigan is) definitely getting a spot. Don’t let nobody else tell you different. … They absolutely don’t want a weekday visit. They want a weekend. They made that clear, so I’ve got to see what I can do.”
Dobson also admitted Michigan is “definitely up there,” in his recruitment and, “not a lot of people talk about them in my recruitment, which I don’t know why, but Michigan is strong.”
The three things Dobson is looking for the most in his future school are “family environment, player development on and off the field, and I want to win.” His mother is an educator, so he also values academics as well. He wants to major in business and was taken on a tour of the Ross Business School during his unofficial visit in April.
At 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, the Cornelius, North Carolina native is the No. 3 corner and No. 9 overall player in the class on the Rivals Industry Ranking.
In-state target opens up on Michigan interest
We haven’t discussed this prospect a ton on Maize n Brew in recent months, but the Wolverines have been doing a ton of work behind the scenes on 2027 three-star wide receiver Tre Britton III. The Belleville native has been making a name for himself in the camp circuit this offseason. He was even named Rivals’ MVP from the Under Armour Ohio Regional a couple weeks ago and put up some decent numbers, running a 4.56 40-yard dash time at 5-foot-11, 169 pounds.
As of right now, Britton has three official visits scheduled — Miami (May 29), Missouri (June 5) and Michigan (June 19). Unless something changes with Britton’s recruitment, those schools are expected to be the final three under consideration, according to Rivals’ Allen Trieu ($).
When it comes to Miami, Britton told Trieu he likes the “development at receiver,” especially given the phenomenal season Malachi Toney just had as a true freshman. Meanwhile, Britton likes the “relationships” with wide receivers coach Jacob Peeler, offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey and head coach Eli Drinkwitz at Missouri. He said he talks with Peeler “every single day” and that it has “been a while since I went a day without talking to him, really,” so the Tigers seems to be recruiting him as hard as any receiver on their board.
And finally, here’s what he had to say about the Wolverines.
“Really, just like being so close to home,” Britton said. “I get to visit them whenever I want really, so I can just get to see how things are going with them. They could take up with me whenever they want too. They’re in my face more, I’d say, because they’re right down the street, so I get to go to them, they get to go to me as many times as possible. So I’m just putting in new relationships and building them fast. It really is — they’re Michigan.”
Britton plans on making a decision shortly after he wraps up his official visit to Michigan.
