The Toronto Blue Jays have dealt with a litany of pitcher injuries this season, with six starting pitchers missing respective time with injuries, and a seventh not longer on the team.

The injuries have unfortunately not been limited to the major league side of things for the Blue Jays.

Left-handed pitching prospect Ricky Tiedemann (No. 4 team prospect per MLB Pipeline), has missed most of the season due to elbow soreness tied to his recovery from Tommy John surgery, which kept him out of action for most of 2024 and all of 2025.

Tiedemann entered spring training ready to ramp up for the start of 2026, but his aforementioned soreness delayed his season debut.

Recently Tiedemann began a rehab assignment June 16 with the Florida Complex League Blue Jays. In the FCL, the 23-year-old southpaw struck out four batters in two innings pitched and had a 4.50 ERA across his pair of outings.

Tiedemann was moved up on his rehab assignment to the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays on Tuesday.

On the same day of his promotion on his rehab assignment, he was scheduled to pitch for Dunedin in relief. Instead, he didn't appear in the game and the Single-A Blue Jays lost 3-1.

It wasn't revealed the day of the game why Tiedemann didn't make his scheduled appearance. However, according to a post on "X" from Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith, the former third-round 2021 draft pick missed his appearance due to neck soreness.

A sore neck prevented Ricky Tiedemann from pitching last night FYI.

Tiedemann's soreness is the latest in a series of injuries that has mired his time in the organization.

The 23-year-old lefty has made a maximum of 18 starts in a single season since he was drafted. His 18 outings came in his first full minor league season in 2022. He posted a 2.17 ERA and struck out 117 batters in 78.2 innings pitched. Tiedemann reached as high as Double-A that season and seemed destined for an early call up.

Since then, Tiedemann has had double-digit starts just once in a single season (15 in 2023) and reached Triple-A in '23.

There was no indication on how long the neck soreness will keep Tiedemann out of action or how long it will delay or prolong his rehab assignment.

The Blue Jays have had a lot of bullpen turnover this season due to a combination of injuries and inconsistency to the starting rotation and bullpen.

If Tiedemann can get healthy this season and stay healthy, he could provide Toronto some much-needed bullpen help for the tail end of the season and potentially playoffs.
