Real Madrid star excited for Jose Mourinho return – “Looking forward to getting started”
Last week, Real Madrid made official the appointment of Jose Mourinho as their new manager, replacing Alvaro Arbeloa. The Portuguese returns to the club 13 years after his first spell in charge, and the hope is that he can unite the squad once again, following a tense end to Arbeloa’s tenure.
One of the players that clashed with Arbeloa during the second half of the 2025-26 season was Raul Asencio. The central defender was dropped after expressing his unhappiness at not being counted upon as a starter, and that led to him playing an even more reduced role during the final weeks of the campaign.
Asencio is looking forward to a fresh start under Mourinho, and when speaking to El Desmarque (via Marca) on Sunday, he expressed a lot of excitement at the prospect of being managed by Mourinho.
“Now, with the new project, with Mourinho, I think it’s very exciting and I’m really looking forward to getting started. “I am very excited to start with Mourinho at the helm. Can we win La Liga next year with him? Yes, of course. He has the record (100 points and 121 goals). Let’s go for it.”

“He is very, very good, it would be a leap in quality for the team. Everything that comes we will receive with open arms and we are sure that the project they are doing is incredible.”
