The Sarasota Herald-Tribune honored the best athletes, teams and coaches from Manatee and Sarasota counties at The High School Sports Awards on May 26, 2026.
The Herald-Tribune sports staff selected All-Area Teams of the top athletes and coaches for all high school sports for the 2025-2026 season.
We named Venice High's Atarah Robinson as our Girls Athlete of the Year among 13 girls sports player of the year candidates. Robinson, who was also named the Girls Track & Field Player of the Year, won the 1600 meters, running a 4:46.50, two seconds faster than the second-place finisher at the Class 4A Track & Field State Championships. It was the fastest time in the state this season. She also placed second in the 800 meters at state. Robinson also ran the state’s fastest time in the mile.
Now we will let you have your say. Do you agree with Atarah Robinson being our pick for Girls Athlete of the Year, or do you prefer a different athlete? Vote in our fans' poll to make your pick for the Herald-Tribune Girls Athlete of the Year
Voting will remain open until Friday, July 17, 2026 at 10 a.m. We will announce the winners on Instagram at heraldtribunesports
