RBS women win to boost top four chances

Altach slip-up pounced on with 4-2 success

FC Red Bull Salzburg Women 4-2 SpG Südburgenland/TSV Hartberg; (H/T: 4-1). Goals: Grünwald (3.), Kobler (18.), Orkic (26. pen), Grabovac (37.) - Dorn (9.), Sipos (89.)

Our women got the win they needed - and in style! Against ADMIRAL Bundesliga basement-club SpG Südburgenland/TSV Hartberg, our team left no doubt, especially in the first 45 minutes, securing a 4-2 victory and keeping alive their hopes of making the championship group. Their first three points of 2026 were somewhat marred by an injury to Sara Grabovac.

Match summary

The match got off to a flying start: Sara Grabovac burst into the penalty area and forced an early save from goalkeeper Schvirjan – but the visiting keeper was powerless against Julia Grünwald's follow-up shot (3'). Although Südburgenland striker Dorn quickly equalized (9'), tapping in a Sipos cross, our team would subsequently capitalise on their majority of the chances.

Boosted by the result of the morning match between Vienna and Altach – which keeps their hopes of reaching the championship group alive – and with midfield maestro Grabovac at the center, Dusan Pavlovic's men created several opportunities, most of which they converted. First, Emelie Kobler, set up by a superb cross from Illinger, finished with a looping header (18'), then captain Lucia Orkic converted a penalty into the right corner (26').

With a quickly taken corner, our Salzburg side increased their lead to 4-1 before half-time. Grabovac curled the ball in wonderfully off the inside of the post (37'). Only the half-time whistle stopped this furious flurry of goals.

The visitors team came out of the dressing room with renewed energy. Whether it was set pieces or ambitious crosses from Sipos, goalkeeper Michaela Fischer was always on hand. The disappointment that Katja Wienerroither missed a one-on-one chance for the fifth goal was tempered by the scoreline. A far more significant blow was the injury to Sara Grabovac, who landed awkwardly after a jump and had to be helped off the field in pain. Consequently, Sipos's consolation goal, a header at the far post to make it 2-4 (89'), became almost irrelevant.

Next week's final match of the regular season will now be a big showdown! If Orkic and her team-mates win in Neulengbach, while their rivals Altach lose to Sturm the following day, we'll secure a last-minute spot in the championship group.

Views

As expected, it was a hard-fought match against a team that fought for every inch. However, we almost always found the right answers, dictating the pace, especially in the first half, and ultimately securing a well-deserved victory. We're delighted to have earned three points and finished this difficult match on a positive note. Our focus is already on Neulengbach!
