PARTNER FOR KYLE HAMILTON: ESPN's Mel Kiper, Jr. had the Baltimore Ravens taking Georgia safety Malaki Starks in the first round of his most recent mock draft.
The Ravens listened.
Starks, 6-foot-1, 205 pounds is considered by many as the best safety in the draft.
He is fully recovered from a leg injury his sophomore season and is ready to make his mark on the NFL. He should compliment Kyle Hamilton in the back end of the secondary.
Starks had an impressive career at Georgia. He had six interceptions and broke up 17 passes in three seasons. In 2024 he led the team in tackles with 77.
According to Kiper, Starks is very versatile in that he can play many positions in the back of the defense. He can play two-high, single-high, in the box or off-man in the slot.
This type of versatility gives the Ravens a perfect compliment to veteran Kyle Hamilton, who was a first-round selection in 2022.
RAVENS GO EDGE RUSHER IN SECOND ROUND: The Ravens opted to take an edge rusher in the second round as they selected Marshall's Mike Green.
There was a supposed "behavioral risk'' with Green; In fact, while he's never been found guilty of anything, he's had to discuss with teams the two sexual assault allegations that have been made against him.
Apparently, Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta and the team security cleared these matters up as they selected Green with the second round pick.
Green is super quick off the ball, has a great first step and is a pure first-round talent that the Ravens were able to get later in the draft. He will prove to be a great value.
At his Pro Day, he ran a 4.25 short shuttle and 6.85 three-cone drill, which are both above the average for NFL defensive ends.
OFFENSIVE LINE HELP IN THIRD ROUND: The Ravens added a versatile option to their offensive line, selecting offensive tackle Emery Jones Jr. in the third round out of LSU.
After losing Patrick Mekari to the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency, the Ravens believe Jones could help fill his void at both backup tackle spots and compete for the starting role at left guard.
"We see him as a possible swing guy. That's why I thought the pick was so good that Eric [DeCosta] made," Head Coach John Harbaugh said.
Harbaugh continued to gush about the LSU offensive lineman.
"He's got the chance to be a swing backup tackle for us right away but he also has the chance to go in there at guard and play,"" Harbaugh said. "We're going to put him in there at guard, too, and see how he does. Once he starts practicing, we'll get a feel for where he can help us. We think he can play guard and tackle."
