The Baltimore Ravens made a notable selection in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, taking Arizona kicker Tyler Loop.
The pick comes as the Ravens are dealing with the NFL investigation of their current kicker, Justin Tucker, who has been accused of sexual misconduct by more than a dozen massage therapists.
Drafting a kicker is already an unusual move: In general, kickers are less likely to get selected in the draft, as most teams don't want to waste their picks on the position. By drafting Loop, the Ravens are indicating they intend for the former Wildcat to make the roster, and potentially replace Tucker as starter.
Tucker, who has spent his entire career with the Ravens, had cemented his place as the team's long-term starter and one of the greatest kickers in league history. That could change after 16 women alleged Tucker displayed inappropriate behavior during message sessions. The NFL opened an investigation into Tucker's behavior; as of February, the league has reportedly begun speaking with the women accusing the kicker of misconduct.
Additionally, the five-time All-Pro had the worst season of his career last year, making 73% of his kicks — a 10% drop from Tucker's previous 12 seasons with the team.
Tucker signed a four-year deal with Baltimore in 2022, with the deal ending after this season. Now, it looks increasingly likely the Ravens are preparing for a future without Tucker — either after not re-signing him, or even in anticipation of a potential punishment.
Enter Loop, who went 67 of 80 on field goals and 126 of 128 on extra points in four seasons with the Wildcats. He was named a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award, given to the best placekicker in the country.
At this point, the Ravens and league have not done anything to directly punish Tucker amid the investigation. But if the veteran kicker's time is done, Baltimore now has a young, talented kicker ready to take over.
