Ravens DC search: Jim Leonhard hired as Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator

The Ravens' search for new coordinators is underway, and a familiar name emerged as a candidate for the defensive play-caller role. Baltimore requested to interview Broncos defensive passing-game coordinator Jim Leonhard for its defensive coordinator job. The 43-year-old Leonhard served as the Broncos' Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Pass Game Coordinator during the 2025 season. He also served as Denver's Defensive Pass Game Coordinator and defensive backs coach in 2024, his first year coaching in the pros.

Leonhard is a highly regarded candidate, and the Bills and Chargers have had the former defensive back on their radar. After the Chargers, Chris O'Leary, and Leonhard have decided to accept the defensive coordinator job in Buffalo.

Leonhard has spent the last two seasons with the Broncos after serving as defensive coordinator at Wisconsin from 2017 to 2022. Leonhard played for the Ravens as an NFL safety and is familiar with Baltimore and its culture.
