On the right side of the page halfway down is a poll asking to rate Max Hall's first game performance. I gave him a B. Right now C is the grade winning the poll. Damn! You guys are tough. I'd give him a C, plus getting a win gives you an extra grade, imho, so I gave him a B! Guy wins his first start. Gotta give him at least a B! Where's the love Cards fans?

The team won in spite of Max, not because of him.

'C' sounds about right to me.

I always hate polls like that. To have any meaning they really need to get a little more specific. Are we simply rating his performance or are we rating it with consideration given to his experience level. I'd give him a solid B if I rated him against expectations and a D- if I rated him against his position. Either way, I'll take his solid B or even his D- over the F Anderson has earned every week thus far.

I gave him a C...he didn't do anything special yet at the same time he didn't lose the game for us. An average performance at best. if + and - were options I'd say C-

Depends on if you're grading him on a sliding scale or not. He get an A for being a UFDA starting in week 5 of the NFL. But if you're grading him against all of the other starting QBs in the NFL, he was pretty average.

I voted "C," but that's like someone coming in and getting a C on the bar exam without going to law school. It's impressive, IMO.

According to his stats it's a D 159 passing yards, 1 interception, 2 fumbles. That's what you don't want to see in a Qb. But he is a rookie, and the 2nd half looked alot better than the 1st.

Gotta go with a C. I would have given him a D just based on the fact that the closest we came to the endzone ( 2 yrd line) was the result of the defense putting him there...But it was his first start. I know he is a UFA but that isn't an excuse. He is a starter and he should not get any special privileges because of that. If Whiz saw fit for him to lead this team, he should be graded just like any other starter.

He had better improve a lot and fast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 65 QB rating will not keep any QB on the field. My prediction sad but true is we will see Anderson again as the starter at some point. Just too much to ask an UDFA to step in as an NFL QB year one and succeed. And No QB means no playoffs.

Unfortunately because of the weakness of their division they will have a losing record but probably wont lose enough games to get one of the top 1 or two QBs in the draft. So QB will be a problem next year again. Just like old times.

Who are you kidding. 65QB rating gets you a free agent contract with some teams....

Ugh.

Because of the energy he brought to the team and the buzz in the stands I give him a C,

The defense played much better due to having a leader of the team. QB is the leader of the whole team, not only the offense. He is well respected by anyone no matter the position.

The offense had much better chemistry and energy. He made some really accurate throws. He made some mistakes as well but his energy and IQ made him overcome these.

To beat the Superbowl champions in your first start is a special thing to do for a rookie.

The team played much better because of Hall is pure speculation on your part.

Hall didn't beat anyone, he took the credit for the win based on the position he plays. Granted, he has a win but we all know who won that game. The defense. Put it this way:

The closest Hall got to the endzone was a result of the defense intercepting Brees at the 2 yrd line. Even then, he couldn't score and fumbled the ball...Thank god for Levi recovering the ball.

I don't think his leadership led the win, in spite of him, they won that game.

I couldn't disagree more. Dockett, Haggans etc. they were all extremely excited about Hall, even went over to him directly to the sideline to show respect. It was not after the big defensive plays, but after the impressive drives he put up, moving the chains almost every single time. I haven't seen that before, our defensive leaders coming to show the QB respect like that.

You must have missed that part.

Do you think it is a coincidence that the D and the whole team plays better now suddenly? There is more in football than just stats and isolated units. Units come together when there is leadership and unity and fall apart when things don't work. Either the whole team believes they can win or they don't.

Hall played outstanding even without what i mention above. He made some KW type of passes with touch that not may QB's make. He will get in endzone eventually, he moved the chains without much problem against the Super Bowl winners.

We won because of Hall, the team woul never play with that much energy with DA or ML out there.

I have to agree. I've seen some rather pathetic performances out of the Cardinal defense with Kurt Warner at QB both before and after he was QB in the Cards NFC Championship game win.

However, Hall did make some fairly decent throws like the one down the right sideline to Fitz for 26 yards.

My concern is that the Saints defense was throwing Hall around like a rag doll and that he's going to get hurt and DeWreck Anderson will be back at QB.

I agree it's speculation but isn't that the point of the poll and this thread.

It's just as easy to speculate that the defense would have played this well if DA were still quarterback and, in fact, isn't that what you've done?

Yeah, I watched that game...And I didn't miss that. What you saw as a show of respect, I saw as a veteran leader showing support for a fellow teammate in his first start. Of course the vets are going to show support. And probably the reason why you haven't seen that before is probably due to the fact that most of our other QB's had experience. Funny how 2 people watching the same thing can come to very different conclusions.

I never saw it as coincidence. We were playing the Champs...the same champs that killed us and ran up the score. The same game where our defense got the brunt of the blame. Did you watch that game?
How could you not be fired up for that? Who played better? The defense?

Didn't DRC say that he was looking to score on that INT the same way the Saints ran up the score in the play-offs?

C'mon man, it's pretty obvious why the defense came to play. can't say that for our offense though.

Bottom line for me, the defense was looking for revenge and they got in a very special way. How can you say we won because of Hall? He gave the Saints 3 opportunities to get the ball back. Luckily for us, the balls bounced our way, save his early INT.

We musty have been looking at different games.

The defense by Billy Davis is not the smartest, they will be outschemed in as many games this years as they were under KW.

But what i talk about here is the intensity and belief that the defensive players play with. There is a huge difference between their effort and what they did under DA. A good QB with respect in the huddle means all that.

Now, even with everyone playing the best on defense, they still can get outplayed by a great offense with a much smarter scheme. But that has nothing to do with individual players giving their best.

Under KW, the same belief in winning was spread all over the team, and in games where playcalling was not an issue, we always came on top no matter who we played.

Did they ever do that for Matt Leinart? Or Anderson? They were really unexperienced as well. No, not even close. Did you see that in Andersons first game? The way they came up to him was special and had nothing to do with him being undrafted and all that. It was more like this: "Finally we have a leader again, we believe we can win, it's great to play football again". That's what it was from my perspective.

He (Hall) shows leadership that none of the other QB's do, besides KW offcourse.

That's a good point. Hadn't thought of that motive. But I don't think it was because the Saints ran up the score. They backed off in the 4th quarter and didn't even score a TD in the second half as Bushs' punt return was their only TD.

I think it was more getting back a little self respect after the poor showing in that game. Too bad they weren't that motivated against San Diego or Atlanta or Oakland.
