The Texas Rangers are entering the 2026 MLB season with a new-look roster, and some interesting changes to the team, namely with MacKenzie Gore in the rotation, Marcus Semien and Jonah Heim gone, and Brandin Nimmo in the outfield.
Those big changes have been the storyline of the offseason so far for the Rangers. But, looking to the minor leagues and their prospects, the news isn't as positive.
As Kennedi Landry of MLB.com shares, the Rangers got some terrible news on their top prospect Sebastian Walcott, as the star 19-year-old infielder has a torn UCL and will miss most of the season.

"Sebastian Walcott - the Rangers' top prospect, per @MLBPipeline - has a UCL tear and will miss most, if not all, of the 2026 season," Landry reports.
This is some terrible news for the Rangers, as their best prospect is not expected to miss the majority of the season. He might be able to return at the end of the year, but more likely than not, Walcott is done for the season.
He's only 19 years old, and with a non-zero chance he played an MLB impact this season, this news is brutal for the Rangers and the young infielder.
According to MLB Pipeline, he's their top prospect. The shortstop is one of the best prospects in all of Major League Baseball as well, ranking 7th in the 2026 rankings from MLB Pipeline.

Last season in Double-A, Walcott put up a solid .741 OPS in 124 games, hitting 13 home runs, 19 doubles, stealing 32 bases, and cutting his strikeout count to 108 from 132 from a year ago.
He's trending towards being one of the better prospects in all of baseball, but this UCL tear is a huge setback and will force the teenage shortstop to wait for at least a year before making headway on an MLB debut.
Losing Walcott for essentially an entire season is a brutal development for the Rangers. Hopefully, he returns sooner rather than later, and without much of an impact from this injury. But time will tell how detrimental this UCL tear will be in his future MLB career.
