PHILADELPHIA - Though Rangers top pitching prospect Caden Scarborough seems to have cleared the biggest obstacles related to his battle with an offseason melanoma, he is still likely to miss the first four to six weeks of the minor league season.
Scarborough, who turns 21 on Wednesday, had some minor complications after beginning to throw once he got to spring training that slowed him down. He is now throwing bullpens again, but is not yet throwing to hitters.
"We're still very excited for Caden's 2026 season," general manager Ross Fenstermaker said. "In terms of when he starts, there will be a slight delay, but we anticipate him finishing strong."
Scarborough had a 2.45 ERA in 88 innings split between Class A Hickory and advanced Class A Hub City in 2025. He struck out 114 and walked just 21. With the trade of Alejandro Rosario in the MacKenzie Gore deal, Scarborough became the Rangers' top pitching prospect and ranked behind only infielder Sebastian Walcott in the entire organization.
