After a disastrous year on special teams in 2025, the Los Angeles Rams dove into that unit headfirst this offseason. They quickly hired Bubba Ventrone as their new special teams coordinator, and then proceeded to add two key players to his group in the first week of free agency: long snapper Joe Cardona and special teams ace Grant Stuard.
Aaron Wilson reported the details of Cardona’s contract and it shows that the Rams made him the highest-paid long snapper in the NFL. It’s officially a two-year contract worth $3.45 million, and it’s fully guaranteed.
That gives him an average salary of $1.725 million per year, tied with Andrew DePaola of the Vikings for the highest of any long snapper. Where Cardona edges out DePaola – and every other long snapper – is in guaranteed money.
Cardona’s $3.45 million guaranteed is the highest of any long snapper, as is his $3.45 million guaranteed at signing; the next closest in fully guaranteed money is Ravens long snapper Nick Moore at $2.78 million.
Per Over The Cap, Cardona’s cap hits are $1.65 million this year and $1.8 million in 2027.
It's a worthwhile investment for the Rams, adding the two-time Super Bowl champion and 34-year-old veteran who carries excellent leadership and character traits with him as a U.S. Naval Reserve Officer, too.
