The Los Angeles Rams and Matthew Stafford agreed to stick together for at least another year, but head coach Sean McVay said he hopes the partnership continues for longer than that.

McVay told Adam Schein on SiriusXM's Mad Dog Sports Radio this week that Stafford "he can play as long as he wants, but fortunately, I'm hoping it's a couple more years."

McVay went on to describe their relationship, which he said has only grown stronger since the two started having "real conversations."

"When you're able to have real conversations with people you love and care about, you can go one of two ways," McVay said. "You can either get further apart, or you can get closer. And there is no question in my mind that he and I are closer than ever. There's a lot of appreciation, there's a lot of gratitude that we were able to work through some of those things.

"I heard [general manager] Les [Snead] say it, to renew the vows. And I think there is kind of a renewal of appreciation for the opportunity to continue to work together. It doesn't go lost on me how fortunate I am to be able to work with somebody as special as he is, both mentally, physically, and more importantly what he means with how he moves as a man, and how he positively affects and influences his teammates and people he's around."

The Rams have certainly enjoyed Stafford under center since the team traded for him in 2021. They won a Super Bowl in their first year together and have won at least 10 games in three of the four years together.

Now, as the two sides enter Year 5 together, there is a certain level of urgency with Stafford turning 37. The Rams' 2025 offseason moves skewed toward adding offensive pieces, like replacing Cooper Kupp with Davante Adams, keeping Alaric Jackson and Tutu Atwell and drafting tight end Terrance Ferguson in the second round.

Will it work? We'll see. But it all starts with Stafford under center.
