The Los Angeles Rams, with Matthew Stafford returning in 2026, are looking to go all-in for what might be his last season in the NFL before retirement.
To make the most of the upcoming season, getting as much help on both sides of the ball makes a ton of sense. That's what made the Davante Adams trade rumors so interesting. In an all-in season, why trade an elite wide receiver like Adams?
Well, as Nate Atkins of The Athletic reports, Rams head coach Sean McVay revealed the truth behind those Adams trade rumors. Those rumors were indeed real, but they ended those negotiations for a very simple reason: they wouldn't be better if they did the trade.
Rams HC reveals truth about Davante Adams trade rumors
"Sean McVay confirmed that the Rams considered trading Davante Adams and said he had a conversation with Davante about the possibility," Atkins reports. "But ultimately, it was not a move they thought would make their team better."
The specific nature of the trade talks the Rams had with Adams regarding the return and what team was involved in the trade talks isn't known. But those talks did happen.
McVay revealing as such is a glimpse into the Rams' philosophy, which this offseason is all about making the most of the now. Adams might be an older WR, and someone that can help now, but if a trade came about that would make sense, they'd do it.

There were rumors about the Rams being interested in trading for A.J. Brown, which certainly would've been interesting. They might've considered putting Adams in the package to get Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles as well.
But, whether that was the actual trade talks going on or not, the Rams backed out of those Adams trade talks, and look forward to 2026 with Adams and Puka Nacua on the roster.
It's noteworthy that the Rams had serious discussions about an Adams trade, as there could be something down the road involving Adams.
It's something worth keeping in mind, as those odd trade rumors turned out to be real, as McVay revealed some of the truth behind these trade talks.
