The Los Angeles Rams made an interesting pick in the 2025 NFL Draft when the team traded up to take Auburn running back Jarquez Hunter in the fourth round.
Hunter is a great player, but the decision to add another running back to a depth chart that already has Kyren Williams, Blake Corum and Ronnie Rivers was a bit mystifying given the youth of all three. Williams is coming off consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and Corum was a third-round pick in 2024.
While Williams' role isn't in jeopardy (in 2025, at least, as he and the Rams continue to discuss a long-term extension), Corum could be supplanted by Hunter if the rookie proves to be a more effective addition to the Rams' backfield. That's what Bleacher Report's Moe Moton thinks could happen, at least.
Hunter is an explosive running back with a lot of college experience at big program. While Corum could start the year as the Rams' RB2, it wouldn't be a shock to see Hunter cut into the second-year running back's snaps throughout the season.
Williams' future is another intriguing element of the Hunter selection. If the Rams can't come to an agreement on a new deal, Williams could be dealt before the end of the season or let go during the 2026 offseason. That would give way to a two-back committee with Corum and Hunter.
There are a lot of possibilities for the Rams' running back room as they head into camps this summer.

"The Los Angeles Rams' biggest question at running back is whether Corum takes on a more significant role behind Williams in the pecking order," Moton wrote. "Last offseason, the Rams selected Corum in the third round, which indicated that he had a shot to spell Williams, but he finished the 2024 season with 58 carries for 207 scoreless yards.
"Corum may have competition for the backup role. The Rams drafted Hunter in the fifth round, and his skill set could allow him to see the field on all three downs. At Auburn, Hunter saw an uptick in rushing production every year between 2021 and 2024, topping out at 1,201 yards and eight touchdowns last season. In that time span, he caught 68 passes for 558 yards and four touchdowns.
"No one can assume Corum will be the No. 2 running back with Hunter in the mix. Rivers and Schrader are solid special teamers, though Waters can push for snaps on kick coverage."
