Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford put together a career season, throwing 4,707 yards, 46 touchdowns, and 276.9 yards per game, all of which led the NFL.
Stafford's performance also led to his first league MVP. On top of being highly productive, the Rams' signal caller was also very efficient in clutch situations, receiving a second-rated grade from Pro Football Focus.
PFF rates clutch as "defined as fourth-quarter and overtime plays when a team trails by 14 points or fewer or leads by 8 points or fewer, excluding garbage time. In other words, these are the snaps that matter most when the game is still hanging in the balance."
Per the metric, Stafford was rated second with an 87.4 overall grade. PFF writer Mark Chichester detailed the Rams' passers' efficiency in pressure situations.
"Stafford generated 14 big-time throws against just three turnover-worthy plays across 156 dropbacks in clutch situations. His 8.59% big-time throw rate ranked third among qualifying quarterbacks, while his 8.6 yards per attempt also ranked third," Chichester said.
Stafford has clearly become a dependable quarterback, but also a player who can stay cool in big moments. Granted, the Seattle Seahawks took down Los Angeles in the NFC Championship game, but that was not due to the lack of effort from the offense and passing situation.
Stafford threw 374 yards and three touchdowns in what was a back-and-forth battle between the NFC juggernauts.
The Rams took the loss very seriously, putting together a team that can not only battle the Seahawks in 2026 but also ensures high-flying passers have a tougher time in general.
Cornerbacks Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson were brought in to rebuild the secondary, and pass rusher Myles Garrett was also added to give the Rams arguably the best defense, on paper.
Stafford also announced his return during NFL Honors, with the expectation that the Rams could be a force in 2026. That is the consensus, as most of the roster remained through free agency.
There are still some questions regarding the wide receiver room producing a player who can keep pace with Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, but its not a make-or-break issue on the offense. Stafford gives the the team the best chance at winning due to his elevation in recent years.
If Stafford can produce another season like 2025, the Rams' opponents will have an even tougher time dealing with both what the offense and defense can throw at them.
