The Las Vegas Raiders will debut the Greg Olson offense against their division rival Los Angeles Chargers in Week 13. Olson takes over play-calling duties from former offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, who was fired by Pete Carroll last week. The experienced coach will try to get the Raiders offense going versus a stout Chargers defense.
We've identified three potential X-factors for the Raiders on offense.
Superstar pass catcher Brock Bowers hasn't reached 80 receiving yards in three consecutive games. Kelly didn't do a consistent enough job ensuring his top playmaker was routinely featured. One of Coach Olson's first challenges will be to make sure Bowers sees 10 targets.
Geno Smith never looked totally comfortable with Kelly's offense. Turnovers and poor decision making were recurring themes. With Kelly now dismissed, Smith will receive an opportunity to prove he wasn't totally to blame. He must improve his level of play under a new offensive coordinator.
The veteran Tyler Lockett has served as Smith's familiar safety blanket since reuniting with Carroll and his former Seattle Seahawks quarterback. Lockett registered four receptions for a team-high 62 receiving yards against the Cleveland Browns last weekend. He needs to continue being an easy-button target for Smith.
