The Raiders recently cut starting defensive tackle Christian Wilkins. They also were having trouble finding a spot in the lineup for former starting CB Jakorian Bennett. Monday they made a move on both fronts.
Bennett was shipped off to the Eagles in a trade to acquire defensive tackle Thomas Booker.
Lately the new coaching staff brought in new starters on both sides in free agent Eric Stokes and third round draft pick Darien Porter. They even seem to favor 2024 fourth round CB DeCamerion Richardson over Bennett. And based on Carroll's penchant for liking longer cornerbacks, that tracks. Bennett stands 5-11 while Stokes is 6-1, Richardson is 6-2, and Porter is 6-4.
As for Booker, he's a former fifth round defensive end by the Houston Texans out of Stanford. After his rookie season in which he appeared in ten games, he was waived by the Texans and signed onto the Eagles practice squad, where he spent the entire 2023 season without appearing in a game.
Last season, however, he switched to defensive tackle and appeared in all 17 games along with four postseason games, earning him a ring. Though he didn't record a snap in the playoffs.
It remains to be seen whether Booker is a valuable enough piece in exchange for the former starter Bennett. But at the outset, it looks like the Raiders didn't get good value in trade here.
