The Las Vegas Raiders believe they may have landed one of the biggest steals of the 2026 NFL Draft, and they are eager to see rookie cornerback Jermod McCoy showcase his full potential when training camp begins.

McCoy, a standout at Tennessee, entered the draft process with first-round talent. However, concerns surrounding the long-term health of his right knee caused him to slide into the fourth round, where the Raiders quickly selected him with hopes of adding another playmaker to their secondary.

Although McCoy’s workload was limited during organized team activities (OTAs), he made an immediate impression whenever he stepped onto the field.

“He jumps out when he does individual [drills] with how explosive he is, and you see the talent,” defensive coordinator Rob Leonard said.

The Raiders have taken a cautious approach with the rookie throughout the offseason, prioritizing his health over rushing him onto the practice field. Head coach Brian Kubiak said the organization has worked closely with vice president of player health and performance Ted Guerrero to ensure McCoy is fully prepared for the demands of training camp.

“He’s done a great job,” Kubiak said. “We’re asking him to spend a lot of time with [Guerrero] just to get him ready, so that when we put him out there come training camp, we have 100% confidence in him. [We are] really excited about seeing him practice come training camp.”

McCoy earned a reputation at Tennessee as one of the SEC’s most athletic defensive backs. His combination of speed, fluidity and ball skills allowed him to match up against some of college football’s top receivers, making him one of the draft’s most intriguing prospects before injury concerns altered his draft stock.

If McCoy can stay healthy, the Raiders believe they have found tremendous value. His athleticism and coverage ability could allow him to compete for meaningful snaps early in his rookie season while adding depth to a defense looking to improve its pass coverage in 2026.
