The Las Vegas Raiders made plenty of moves this offseason to help bolster the defense. One of those moves was a trade for cornerback Taron Johnson from the Buffalo Bills for a sixth round pick in 2026 NFL draft. Johnson was brought in to bring a veteran presence in the secondary and help fill a need at the slot corner position.

Johnson is turning 30 years old in July and has two years left on his deal. However, none of the remaining years are guaranteed, leaving him vulnerable to being released by The Raiders. This has led Johnson to want a new deal with guarantees to make him feel secure with the Raiders. He has been absent from voluntary workouts, and Vincent Bonsignore of the California post reported that his contract is the reason he hasn’t been with the football team.

Per sources: CB Taron Johnson's absence at @Raiders voluntary offseason workouts is contract related. The $18M he's on the books for in '26 & '27 is non guaranteed. Makes sense he's looking for more security.

Of course, this could become a more serious issue if he misses the mandatory mini-camp, which could lead to fines. If Johnson continues to hold out, it will be interesting to see which direction Spytek decides is best for the football team. Hopefully, the situation gets resolved quickly, and everyone is ready to go heading into training camp.
