The Raiders' search always appeared to focus on appointing an offensive-minded coach, though a few defensive-minded candidates advanced forward. Ultimately, Kubiak is a hire who will prioritize the development of expected No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza. The Raiders are aligning Kubiak with Mendoza.

Every NFL franchise dreams of aligning their head coach with a young quarterback. One benefit to the Raiders' disastrous 3-14 season is the ability to hand-select their next franchise QB at No. 1 overall in the 2026 NFL draft. Hiring an offensive-minded coach like Kubiak attempts to ensure the Heisman Trophy-winning Mendoza is placed in the best environment possible.

Kubiak possesses a proven track record when it comes to maximizing quarterback play. That's terrific news for Mendoza as he prepares to acclimate to the NFL. The opportunity to coach Mendoza likely played a large role in Kubiak choosing the Raiders over the Arizona Cardinals.
