Ashton Jeanty wasn’t expecting a football lesson while shopping for furniture. However, an unlikely encounter with Kenneth Walker III gave the Las Vegas Raiders running back an intriguing glimpse into his own future. Speaking on NFL Network, Jeanty revealed that he crossed paths with the Super Bowl champion at a Nebraska Furniture Mart in Texas, turning an ordinary shopping trip into a memorable football conversation.
“I did [buy something]. I don’t know if he did, though,” Jeanty joked.
The meeting carries significance beyond the laughs because Walker has already demonstrated how dangerous he can be in a Klint Kubiak offensive system. Now that Kubiak is bringing the same scheme to Las Vegas, Jeanty can study Walker’s success as a potential blueprint for his own development.
The Raiders have spent the offseason constructing an offense designed to maximize Jeanty’s explosiveness. That includes strengthening the offensive line with the addition of Pro Bowl center Tyler Linderbaum. Kubiak’s system should create opportunities for Jeanty to attack cutback lanes while handling a significant workload as both a runner and receiver.
After producing 975 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 266 carries during his first professional season, Jeanty also caught 55 passes for 346 yards and five scores. His 1,321 total yards from scrimmage demonstrated why Las Vegas views him as a foundational offensive centerpiece. Now, seeing what Walker accomplished under Kubiak gives Jeanty another reason to believe an even bigger breakout could be coming. A random encounter in a furniture store may have provided little more than a funny story. For Jeanty, though, it also offered a tantalizing preview of what Kubiak’s offense could unlock in Las Vegas.
