Raheem Morris is back in the NFC West. The Los Angeles Rams’ former defensive coordinator will now be an assistant coach for a division rival.

According to reports, the San Francisco 49ers are hiring Morris as their new defensive coordinator. He’ll replace Robert Saleh, who was just hired by the Tennessee Titans as their next head coach.

Morris spent three years as the Rams’ defensive coordinator from 2021-2023 after a stint with the Atlanta Falcons. In 2024, he returned to Atlanta as the Falcons’ head coach but only held that job for two years before being fired this offseason.

He and the Falcons beat the Rams in shocking fashion in Week 17, pulling off the upset in Atlanta to hand the Rams their fifth and final loss of the regular season. He’ll now get two cracks a year at his former team, aiming to build back up an injury-ravaged 49ers defense.

Morris, 49, gets his third crack at being a defensive coordinator; he previously was the Falcons' defensive coordinator in 2020 before his three-year stint in L.A.
