He isn’t a bad GM (in the bottom third or like historically bad). The problem is he’s risk-averse and unlucky.

Maybe the sample size isn’t there to say he’s bad. The problem is this team needs good people at QB, GM, and HC to actually compete and I don’t think we have that rn.

If you’re conservative in this next draft you probably do like what Parcells did in the 2008 NFL draft and build the lines then draft a QB prospect. Less risk and more excuses not to be fired.
Monti has been mostly bad in FA and mostly bad in the draft. Basically has ignored trades. Keim teams were 80-80. Monti is 13-22, and steaming towards another rebuild without even coming close to a playoff game. If never actually being good by year 3 in a rebuild is a sign, it's that you're not a very good GM. Monti's plan was to tear this thing down - we were promised a focus on both lines. Both are full of question marks at best. The 2024 draft is trending to be a cautionary tale. If this isn't a bad GM, I don't know what is.

Monti hasn't fixed our QB problem, or O-line needs a total overhaul at guard and RT, we need a new RB, another top quality WR, more D-line, much better ILB, and likely will have more holes at S.

Why should Monti be involved in the hire of the next Cards head coach or QB?

When will Bidwill learn to put people with actual experience in the FO and get the hell out of the way?

3 Turnovers and 0 gained back matters more than the yards.

Game 1 +0 Turnover margin - Win by 7
Game 2 -1 Turnover margin - Win by 5
Game 3 +1 Turnover margin - Loss by 1
Game 4 -1 Turnover margin - Loss by 3
Game 5 -1 Turnover margin - Loss by 1
Game 6 +0 Turnover margin - Loss by 4
Game 7 -1 Turnover margin - Loss by 4
Game 8 +3 turnover margin win by 10
Game 9 +1 turnover margin Lose by 22
Game 10 -3 turnover margin lose by 21

Game 9 is the only real outlier. Protecting the ball is what keeps the games close or leads to large wins on our part.

For most fan bases, the season is just really getting started. For us, our season was over weeks ago. Sad to be looking forward to the draft in November.

I almost put my post in the Draft Positioning thread, but then thought better of it.

The fans need something to look forward too. I'm glad there is that.

He just doesn't know who to hire. He needs to hire a President of Football Ops with a football background first and foremost. We're a rudderless organization.
Yeah, I would hope that if I were lucky enough to own/run a professional sports team that I would find the best people and let them run the team aspect of the franchise. I don't understand those who lucked into owning a franchise having such a difficult time delegating those responsibilities. You did not create this franchise and build it up from the ground. In most cases, you were born into a family which owned the team (ala Michael Bidwill). Put people in charge that know and understand the game. You sit back and reap the benefits and celebrity of your position. Let the football people run the football team. You do not need to sit in the film room with a head coach or do anything beyond simply being an owner.

So how eager are you to turn over your financial management to a stranger when you have one income source? The football operations are funded by the owner's wallet. If anything Bidwill has listened too much to the football experts. He got bamboozled into giving the store to a defective QB. How good was that advice? His Dad is much maligned but he would never have done that second Murray contract. Prior to end of rookie contract Murray's agent stampeded Michael into signing him to a new contract. No one stampeded Bill Bidwill. When it was announced Big Red was leaving STL Dan Dierdorf on a sportscast said no one bluffs Bill Bidwill. He hires GMs like Keim and lets him do what he wants. He let KK do what he wanted. Bidwill added wide receivers and tight ends and drafted a tackle because Murray and KK wanted it. So the Bidwill's dont spend money probably because he cant afford it in STL due to lack of revenue sharing and they lose when they do spend money. Which would you do if you get same result?
