Quinnipiac transfer forward Amarri Monroe has committed to Syracuse, he told On3.
The 6-foot-7 senior averaged 15.6 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game this past season, earning First-Team All-MAAC. He also finished the year with 13 double-doubles.
He was recently granted an additional year of eligibility though a preliminary injunction in a class-action lawsuit in Colorado, which granted all high school class of 2022 athletes who exhausted their fourth season of college eligibility this spring eligibility a fifth season in 2026-27.
The lawsuit against the NCAA stemmed out of the organization’s new age-based eligibility model. The NCAA adopted an new age-based eligibility model that would provide student-athletes five years of collegiate eligibility, with the athlete’s “clock” beginning when they enroll full-time in college or following their 19th birthday, whichever comes first. The new model will be fully implemented with the Fall 2027 recruiting class and does not include any language to grandfather athletes whose fourth seasons of collegiate eligibility were completed by Spring 2026. That has led to dozens of lawsuits against the NCAA over the last several weeks.

Monroe becomes new head coach Gerry McNamara‘s seventh transfer portal addition this offseason. He joins three Siena transfers who followed McNamara to Syracuse: wing Gavin Doty and forwards Francis Folefac and Tasman Goodrick. The Orange also added McNeese guard Garwey Dual, Temple guard Aidan Tobiason, and App State center Luke Wilson.
Syracuse also brings in three international players: centers Iker Martinez and Adramane Siby, along with small forward Mark Morano Mahmutovic. The Orange’s freshman class includes three-star point guard Ryan Moesch.
