INDIANAPOLIS, IN - APRIL 06: Head coach Mike Krzyzewski of the Duke Blue Devils watches "One Shining Moment" with Quinn Cook #2 after defeating the Wisconsin Badgers during the NCAA Men's Final Four National Championship at Lucas Oil Stadium on April 6, 2015 in Indianapolis, Indiana. We’ve long thought that Quinn Cook could be a great coach if he ever decided to go that route. He’s very personable, communicates well, and has an immense history in the game. He’s one of a small number of people who played for legendary DeMatha High coach Morgan Wootten and also Mike Krzyzewski, and is also one of a relatively small number of players who won an NCAA championship and has multiple NBA rings, one with Golden State, and one with the Los Angeles Lakers.
In short, he would have a lot to offer as a coach.
We get a small glimpse into that in this clip from the opening day at K Academy, Duke’s annual fantasy camp with Mike Krzyzewski.
He relates to everyone effortlessly here, whether it’s teammates from his championship team or older participants he’s never met.
His future is his business, but we think he’d be just great in coaching.
We get a brief cameo from Nolan Smith here, who made a nice splash in his first season as a head coach at Tennessee State. Next year might be fun too: Smith has gotten two former five-star recruits to commit for next season. Arterio Morris and Aaron Bradshaw.
Morris has bounced around a bit. He started at Texas, spent a couple of years in JUCO, and then was at Bethune-Cookman last season. Morris comes with some baggage, which could be a problem, but hopefully it goes well.
Bradshaw, meanwhile, has played at Kentucky, Ohio State, and Memphis.
Smith got an extension through 2030-31, so obviously, his school has confidence in their coach.
Dave Bradley posted this on X, and it’s pretty amazing:
Duke men’s basketball’s media exposure value over the past 5 years exceeded:
- All 17 ACC football programs
- 14 of 18 Big Ten football programs
- 13 of 16 SEC football programs
- All 16 Big 12 football programs
