This is not meant to start a whole diatribe of conversation. I’m looking for an explanation.

Is it possible the Cardinals could actually extend Murray’s contract in an effort to make him more tradable and soften the cap hit for us? I have a feeling if this is possible somebody would have brought this up by now.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question because I really don’t understand all the mumbo jumbo of cap hit before June, after June and dead money stuff.

Thanks in advance.

No. An extension doesn’t do anything to facilitate a trade because a trade just accelerates all money into this year.

The Cards could convert some or all of Kyler’s guaranteed salary into a signing bonus to facilitate a trade. This would allow our trading partner to take on less guaranteed money but adds to Kyler’s dead cap charge if traded.

It would reduce Kyler’s dead cap charge vs if he were released.

It's been mentioned that Kyler's agent would just say Kyler's not interested in playing for you. I could only see that IF there are several teams interested in trading for him. Just out of curiosity, what did Kyler major in at college? Would he walk away from football to go do a 9-5 job? (yes, he's rich but people still need a sense of purpose) Or would he suck it up so he "could" play football next year.

$54M dead cap this year
$7M dead cap if you wait until 2027

You can't cut him - that would be so Cardinals.
if you cut Kyler this offseason, his $52mm "live cap" hit turns into a $54mm dead cap hit -- the Cardinals cap space effectively stays the same, with a bunch freed up in 2027.

you can cut him

I think he wants to play football. Suck what up? He’s got a bunch of guaranteed money coming to him this year whether he’s cut or traded.

He doesn’t have any incentive to facilitate a trade by restructuring unless he gets some of the money that would guarantee in March.

I guess I meant, IF the Jets or just one single team, were the only team willing to trade for him, would he go there even if he didn't want to or what would he do if not playing football?

He wouldn’t get the guaranteed money if he were traded and didn’t report. It would also void the rest of his contract.

Hmmmmm. So Kyler should work with the Cardinals to find a destination to his liking or we trade him to the Jets for a 7th round pick.

Think more cash than cap though. The team is on the hook for two more years salary if you keep him on the books past 1 month from now. I can't see this team paying Kyler any more money. The dead cap is remnants of his signing bonus, not new money he gets paid. They'll take the cap hit and cut him if he can't be traded.

The Jets would want to take on his deal. Maybe he’d like playing for the Jets.

he could monetize his video game streams for YEARS to come. That guy will never know a day of work like you or I know.

You're most likely right! When you slice and dice it, after football expenses, agent fees, paying for his friends and family and then pay federal and state taxes, he'll probably have over $100M left. If he invests it/spends right, he won't have to work the rest of his life.

However, I looked it up.... Many very rich NFL player have lost it all - Adrian Peterson, Warren Sapp, Vince Young, Michael Vick, Lawrence Taylor, Terrell Owens, Dan Marino, John Elway. There are some sad stories in this link. William “The Refrigerator” Perry living in a retirement home, and many dumb mistakes that cost mega millions.

If Kyler makes some of the same mistakes as others, he is doomed because from what he has shown, he doesn't have the personality to bounce back like some of these guys and work TV/Media. I could never see Kyler in front of of a camera/microphone to make big bucks!.
