Where does Ty Simpson fall in this grouping of QB who will likely be available this time next year? Should Cards wait and hope for one of these guys over making the draft effort for Simpson?

Top Returning Quarterbacks Going into the 2026 College Season:

Julian Sayin – Ohio State Buckeyes
Sayin is the only returning 2025 Heisman finalist, completing 77% of his passes with a 74.2% accurate throw rate, setting a PFF College single-season record. He led all FBS quarterbacks with a 92.9 PFF grade and is expected to be a top NFL draft prospect in 2027.

Dante Moore – Oregon Ducks
Moore returns after a 32-touchdown season and a 90.2 PFF passing grade. Known for his arm strength and playmaking ability, he led the nation in deep-throw accuracy and guided Oregon to the College Football Playoff semifinals.

Arch Manning – Texas Longhorns
Manning combines dual-threat ability with high football IQ. In 2025, he threw for 3,163 yards and 26 touchdowns while adding 399 rushing yards and 10 rushing TDs. He posted an 87.3 PFF grade and is a key leader for Texas.

Trinidad Chambliss – Ole Miss Rebels
Chambliss, granted a sixth year, threw for 3,934 yards and added 585 rushing yards. He excelled under pressure with a 76.1 PFF grade and is a dynamic dual-threat quarterback.

CJ Carr – Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Carr completed 66.6% of his passes for 2,741 yards and 24 touchdowns. He is a redshirt sophomore with strong field vision and is expected to lead Notre Dame’s offense with increased responsibility.

Sam Leavitt – LSU Tigers
Leavitt, transferring from Arizona State, posted 15 touchdowns in a limited 2025 season. He has a dual-threat skill set and an 87.8 PFF grade over the last two seasons, making him a potential Heisman contender.

Jayden Maiava – USC Trojans
Maiava threw for 3,711 yards and 24 touchdowns in 2025. He is known for his aggressive vertical passing style and has posted back-to-back 80+ PFF grades.

Brendan Sorsby – Texas Tech Red Raiders
Sorsby threw for 2,800 yards and 27 touchdowns with 580 rushing yards. He excels under pressure, leading the nation with a 78.4 PFF grade in high-pressure situations.

Darian Mensah – Miami Hurricanes
Mensah threw for 3,973 yards and 34 touchdowns in 2025. He is a strong arm quarterback with mobility, poised to elevate Miami’s offense in 2026.

Josh Hoover – Indiana Hoosiers
Hoover transferred from TCU and threw for 3,472 yards and 29 touchdowns in 2025. He is known for rhythm, timing, and accuracy, and will lead the reigning national champions.

I've been doing some research trying to figure out----Simpson now---Or one of the above with our predicted 4.5 wins???

The thing about Simpson is that Kurt Warner really likes him, which makes me a believer because of how much I really like Kurt.

So what if Simpson is the real deal and next year the Cards can get a haul of picks from a team that wants one of the tops QBs?

So there are some positives and possibilities.

I like Kurt too.
But his QB evaluations have been less than accurate over the years. He is certainly no Ron Jaworski.
You get better evals from pff or eson.

I appreciate where you are coming from with KW. He is certainly an athlete to admire and respect. Problem is, he has not crossed over into being an objective evaluator of talent. He is still going by the old 'players code' of not being openly critical of a fellow football player. Compare that to some of the talking-head ex-players in the media who have zero filter when giving the good and especially the bad about a given player. Plus, Kurt lives his faith when talking about others.

Realize he was the ultimate underdog---not even drafted, run out of Green Bay training camp by Brett Favre, stocking grocery shelves to make ends meet, etc. He still tiptoes around making any public negative comment about any players, let alone young QBs.

So, take that in consideration as you listen to his comments---but keep admiring the man and the player.

No Simpson unless he falls into the 3rd round.
So, where do you see TS falling in the list of QBs still in college?

Let's assume the Card's end 2026 with the 4.5 - 5.5 wins and we are drafting at #5 or #6. We could have a run at the top next year and. in a worse-case scenario, be left to choose from the 4th or 5th QB on that list.

Is Simpson better than the 4th or 5th guy?

That's got to be the question for some teams considering taking him in this draft. Teams like the Steelers have been good enough to not get the draft position to get a top tier prospect. Ditto the Rams. Are they going to take the gamble figuring they are in their same draft spot order next year as this year? Will Simpson at their pick this year be better than their projected pick next year?

This conversation even existing blows my mind.

There is no indication whatsoever that Ty Simpson is potentially a high level NFL talent.

His stats are underwhelming, his age is a concern, his durability is frightening, his experience is non-existent, his play in big games is freaking terrible.

This conversation makes no sense.

If you believe the conversation makes no sense, why did you join in with your nonsense reply? That blows my mind.

The question was where TS fits in with the upcoming class of QBs. The question was NOT whether his stats, his age, his durability, etc were "freaking terrible." You answered a question that was not being asked.

I don't recall seeing anyone on this list or even in the media who claim that Simpson is a high-level NFL talent. About the closest to that was commentator Dan Orlovsky making a comment that he thought Simpson was a better QB over Mendoza in this draft. I'll have to go back and look at his comments to see if he claimed that Simpson is potentially a high-level NFL talent??? That Dan Orlovsky comment has exploded with all the talking heads jumping in on his comment---so, are you joining in on that conversation and not on the question I posted?

Why not just say Simpson is at the bottom of the list of upcoming QBs if that is your opinion. That would frame him in this draft and where a team (including the Cards) pick him. And there will be a team hungry for a QB who will pick him (maybe the Cards)

Fine.

I think this is a really bad year to need a QB, and even then, he does not stand out as one of the better options in THIS draft.

I don't like Beck, he is like a... 5th round pick, flier, type of guy... why is Simpson better than Beck?

IMO, Simpson is a non-prospect. He's undersized, his arm isn't impressive, his results are extremely questionable, his durability is questionable. He is somehow both inexperienced for his draft class AND OLD for his class.

The QB position is so crucial that why not keep your options open to do both if you have the opportunity. If Simpson is there in Round 2 or if you like him enough to trade up into the back end of Round 1 to take him, go for it. And if the team stinks this season and ends up in a spot to draft one of those top guys next year, do that as well and move forward with Simpson and the 2027 QB to see which one ends up being better. I suspect Simpson will be gone mid-1st round before the Cardinals ever get a chance to draft him, so more likely they get a mid-round guy like Beck or Allar this year.

Good point. Nothing says you can't take a guy at QB two years in a row. For such an important position, sometimes have to shop around more than once. I think BA once said you need to draft a QB every year.

Of course, that is what Cards did with Rosen and then taking KM. LOL.

So where do you see Simpson falling in the list of QBs coming out next year??? Where would you take him based on that evaluation?

That all remains (or would remain) to be seen. I would put him very far down the pecking order because of his number of starts. If Moore, for instance, is really good this season, he would be head and shoulders above Simpson as a prospect. Simpson succeeding would be a ginormous underdog achievement. History is flat against him and he did nothing near enough to earn a top pick as a QB. IDGAF where his daddy coached either or how "toolsy" he is.

Because if you do that the Cards in no way, shape, or form will draft a top QB next season. Bank on it.

You'll get the better prospect by waiting until next year. There are probably 5-7 guys that will be rated higher.
Sayin, Moore, Manning(I'm not buying it) for sure. Chambliss will have another year.
Plus there will be guys cone out of nowhere too.

That’s not entirely the question though. Would those guys be better than Simpson with a year of development in the NFL? Plus you can leverage your 2027 first round pick in other ways?

I wouldn’t use a first round pick on Simpson but I’m old enough to remember when Jake Locker was a projected #1 overall pick in the spring before he declared.

They say that every stinking year.

Manning has not shown much at all, but will got #1 because of his name
Chambliss turns 24 this off season.
Dante Moore is still really raw, not a given he is the starter next year either. with his new teammate (Dylan Raiola) lighting it up. Raiola could be the #1 QB in 2028
Sorsby is 13-17 in his college career with one winning season at 7-5
Sayin has 14 career starts and honestly might be the best of this group, so he might go top 2 with Manning
Sam Leavitt cannot stay healthy and has an odd throwing motion
LaNorris Sellers is 12-12 and was really bad this year
Jayden Maiava will be 24 and was ok.

There is no clear cut guy to tank for. All these guys have warts, so waiting for next year is just as much of a gamble as taking a kid like Simpson. 2028 it is!!! And then 2029!! Or 2030 and take Gunner Rivers!

Josh Rosen would like a word.
You think it's going to happen again? I don't. I also don't want to draft a QB because "Welp, he'll probably suck but if he sucks bad enough we can spin it into some weird positive with another high pick."

Simpson has an extremely low floor. We have a team that desperately needs top-end talent. Let's actually draft THAT, please.

This is a joke, right? I'm all for seizing the day and not waiting for tomorrow, but baseline those guys will all be better prospects because they'll have started, gee, more than fifteen effing games.

Yinz want to crown this Simpson kid, fine. Don't complain to the mods when I put you on blast when he bombs. I don't want to hear "I didn't see that coming!" or "I was so wrong!" or "It's the Cards' fault for not developing him" or "In hindsight it was a mistake!" Taking QBs who start so few games is dumb in foresight. It is a ginormous gamble in foresight.

I think it’s dumb to waste a year waiting on what ifs. The amount of times I hear next years draft is better is a joke. I also think the age of a QB is a joke they play till they are 40
The age is more to do with the ability to develop at the next level. The older you get, the harder it is to change your mechanics. Has there ever neen a QB drafted after 25 that has success?

That's hard to tell and a big question mark.
Obviously if Simpson develops, he'd be the better choice. But his projection is lower than these other guys.

But, in a vacuum, I'm waiting and taking the better prospect in '27 because the Cards aren't winning anything this year.
