Happy Sunday Husky fans. I’m sorry this is late today but I’m in Hawaii having some family time. I got the chance to talk to 3 star edge Troy Mailo from Mullen HS, CO about his recruitment and interest in UW. Mailo is rated as the 42nd best edge in the country and besides UW holds offers from Michigan, Oklahoma, ASU, and UCLA (those are some of the more notable offers). Here is what he had to say:
Uwdp: UW offered you a while ago — how is your relationship with UW and what are your thoughts about UW?
My relationship with UW has been really strong. Coach Van Horn and Coach Kaufusi have been recruiting me consistently since they offered, and I’ve built a lot of respect for the coaching staff. I love how serious they are about football,development,and family, UW is definitely a school I’m very interested in.
Uwdp: You visited UW this last season — what was your impression of UW when you went on a visit?
When I visited UW, I was really impressed by the atmosphere and energy around the program. The campus is beautiful, the facilities are top tier, and you can tell the players and coaches take a lot of pride in what they’re building. It felt like a place where you can grow as a player and as a person.
UWDP: Besides UW, what other schools are you looking at?
Besides UW, I’m still exploring a few other schools that have been recruiting me hard. I’m keeping my options open and focusing on finding the best fit for me both academically and athletically.
UWDP: Are you working on scheduling an official visit? If so, when are you thinking of visiting UW?
Yes, I’m definitely working on scheduling official visits. UW is one of the schools I want to get back to, and I’m looking at possible dates in the early summer. I’m still working through the details with the staff.
UWDP: What are your goals for your senior season?
My biggest goals are to lead my team, have a dominant senior year, and keep improving every week. I want to compete at the highest level, help my team win, and show colleges that I’m ready to play early at the next level.
UWDP: How does UW see you fitting into their defense?
UW sees me fitting in as an edge who can bring pressure off the outside, set the edge in the run game, and be versatile in their front. They like my athleticism and physicality, and how I can impact the game in multiple ways.
UWDP: How would you describe yourself as a player?
I’d describe myself as a hardworking, physical, and explosive player. I play with a lot of intensity, I love competing, and I’m always trying to get better. I take pride in being disciplined, coachable, and doing whatever my team needs.
UWDP: When you decide to commit, what will you be looking for in a school?
When I commit, I’ll be looking for the best overall fit. I want a place that feels like home, has strong academics, and a coaching staff that believes in developing me. Relationships and trust will also be a huge part of my decision.
The Huskies have prioritized Mailo and he will be a player to watch over the coming months.
