While PSG is offering him a first professional contract, young goalkeeper Martin James prefers to leave on a free transfer this summer. The Parisian academy product has chosen to leave his boyhood club despite the hand extended to him by coach Luis Enrique for a first-team spot.

A new goalkeeper will arrive at PSG this summer. Last week, the Italian press announced the imminent arrival of Alessandro Longoni, 18, from AC Milan.

A signing is likely linked to James's situation. Performing well throughout the Parisian U19 team's run to the Youth League semifinals, the 18-year-old goalkeeper satisfied his superiors. They therefore sent him an offer to sign his first professional contract several months ago, without success.

According to French outlet Le Parisien, the native of Versailles has decided to leave on a free transfer this summer, at the end of his trainee contract. James has not yet chosen his future destination, but the source indicates that the young goalkeeper, coveted by several clubs, is leaning toward a team qualified for a European competition.

Apparently, the French U18 international believes that a departure would be beneficial for his development. The prospect of being blocked by Matvey Safonov, Lucas Chevalier (if he decides to stay despite his backup status), and by Renato Marin may have cooled him off.

PSG did everything to show him confidence in important meetings. In addition to the offer from management, first-team coach Luis Enrique reached out to him on several occasions.

James was actually called up as the third goalkeeper for Champions League matches against Tottenham, Athletic Bilbao, Sporting CP, and Newcastle. Call-ups that were insufficient to prevent his move to the professional level away from the French capital.

PSG has been through this before. Despite the fact that, since the arrival of Enrique and sports advisor Luis Campos, the Parisian project has revolved more around young players, there are some players who simply have no place in the team.

James is just one case, but it recently happened with Noham Kamara and Axel Tape. The first went to Lyon, the second to Bayer Leverkusen. And no one denies their talent. They are very good players, but despite that, they do not immediately fit into the PSG first team.

Arsenal Leading PSG in Race for $76M-Rated Lille Midfielder: ReportArsenal is gradually seducing Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, who is also wanted by PSG. The Gunners have assured the 18-year-old of an important role in Arteta's plans.
The main problem for the Rouge et Bleu is, rather, that they leave for free. By signing his first professional contract, PSG could have sold him and gotten some return from his departure. Although, of course, that would surely have reduced the number of clubs interested in signing him.
