The Boston Red Sox acquired Caleb Durbin from the Milwaukee Brewers in a six-player deal this offseason, and one of the players sent to the Brewers was Shane Drohan.

Drohan, a left-handed pitcher, became the Brewers' No. 25 prospect after the trade. On Monday, the Brewers announced he was being called up for his big league debut, with left-handed pitcher Jared Koenig going on the injured list. Drohan failed to make the team out of spring training, but now he is getting an opportunity.

His role is still undefined. He was primarily a starter for the Red Sox organization last year, making 11 starts in Triple-A. He made one start for the Brewers in Triple-A before getting called up. He gave up two earned runs in his 3 1/3 innings of work in that outing.

He made four appearances this spring and posted a 4.26 ERA in 12 2/3 innings. Drohan has great stuff, and the Brewers are an organization that knows how to get the best out of pitchers. Drohan could simply fill Koenig's role in the bullpen, but he is also an option to start on Wednesday.

Chad Patrick is scheduled to start, but he would be pitching on short rest because the Brewers played a doubleheader on Saturday. Drohan could start that game, or be a long relief option if Patrick has to have a short outing. Regardless, the odds are that he makes his debut against the team that traded him away a few months ago.

The Red Sox know him well, but recent history shows that Red Sox pitchers end up playing much better for the Brewers. Quinn Priester and Kyle Harrison are prime examples.
