Meltzer noted that the people who were granted their release on Sunday did not know it was coming ahead of time. So, it’s likely that wrestlers on the roster right now are unaware if they will have to continue to sit out the rest of their contract or if they will be getting that phone call. Mike Kanellis is one name who is probably hoping to get the call soon since he is one of the names who asked to be let go. If he’s not released, then he would have to wait out the rest of his contract. He signed a 5-year deal a few months ago.

Meltzer noted that although the belief is that more releases are coming, these things change rapidly. It is notable that all of the recent releases (except for ACH) have been for wrestlers 39 or older. If you go back further this year, Dustin Runnels is 50, Shawn Spears (Tye Dillinger) is 38, and KENTA (Hideo Itami) is 38.

As previously noted, Vince McMahon has been against releasing wrestlers but has been convinced to let some go…at least the ones he doesn’t think will make a big difference working elsewhere.

WWE TLC card: Match pulled, two bouts expected to be announced
Unless something changes, Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Braun Strowman isn’t expected to take place at TLC despite WWE hoping that Strowman would be cleared in time.

It was noted earlier this week that Strowman missed live events this past weekend due to injury. This forced WWE to scrap an angle to set up this match at TLC on last week’s SmackDown episode.

The belief earlier this week was that if Strowman was medically cleared by Friday then WWE could shoot the angle before TLC. However, since he’s not cleared, the match is off, as of this writing.

A clip from that interview was posted on BT Sports’ Twitter account where he talked about wanting to do something with WWE.

He revealed that he almost appeared at the press conference to hype the match between WWE Champion Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez, who Cormier is good friends with, at the Crown Jewel pay-per-view event in October.

“I’ve talked to WWE on a number of occasions, they want to work together. I almost came to the press conference for Brock vs. Cain to play a role of a fight builder but unfortunately, my schedule didn’t work. I had an offer to work the new WWE Backstage show on FOX. Obviously, it didn’t work with the new relationship with ESPN. We are constantly trying to find ways to get me involved in the product.”

The ongoing changes to WWE TLC is a perfect example of how plans change constantly in the company.

Originally, WWE had planned to book a singles match between Randy Orton and AJ Styles at this show. It had been on the card for weeks but that has changed.

Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Styles vs. Orton would not take place at TLC. Instead, the match will take place on Monday’s episode of Raw. In fact, WWE had aired a quick promo on Friday Night SmackDown but didn’t announce it on social media or their website.

SPOILER: Mystery team for tonight’s tag team title open challenge on WWE TLC PPV
There are 7 match advertised for tonight’s WWE TLC pay-per-view. Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE is considering adding another match to the Kickoff show. On the main card, there’s a Viking Raiders match but their opponents have not been announced. The match is being advertised as an open challenge for their Raw Tag Team Championship.

Meltzer noted that, as of last Monday, the plan was (and still might be) Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson to wrestle The Viking Raiders on tonight’s show. That can still change but, at last word, that is the plan.
