Comparing draft prospects to NFL players, both former and current, is an annual tradition.
It doesn't necessarily mean they'll have the same kind of success at this level. Yet, the comparisons are made based on how similar the prospects' game play, physical measurements, production, roles and traits are.
Each of Bleacher Report's scouting reports had pro comparisons, starting with first-round pick, running back Omarion Hampton, who drew shades of Lions' David Montgomery.
Hampton and Montgomery don't have home-run-hitter speed, but both wear defenses down with power, vision, and balance.
Second-round pick, wide receiver Tre Harris' pro comparison was former Saints' Michael Thomas.
Both players have a combination of size and natural fluid ability for the position, with quick feet and the ability to make long strides downfield to get open. They have strong hands and fight for the ball well at the catch point and in contested situations.
Third-rounder defensive tackle Jamaree Caldwell was compared to Saints' Khalen Saunders. I would guess that Caldwell drew parallels to Saunders because when he was at Houston, he was rushed off the edge, something Saunders also did in college. I get shades of former Packers DT BJ Raji with Caldwell, as the two are more athletic for their size, and they have the power to work through double teams.
Finally, fourth-round pick, edge defender Kyle Kennard, was compared to Rams' Byron Young but with better length. Kennard has 34-inch arms while Young has 33.5-inch arms. But on the field, both players are athletic and explosive pass rushers who can win around the edge in a handful of ways, but they're not as strong at defending the run.
