The Chargers boosted their backfield on Thursday night with the selection of running back Omarion Hampton. Heading into Day 2, Los Angeles still has a handful of positions that need to be addressed.

With that said, here is my best guess at what general manager Joe Hortiz could do with their second and third round selections.

Round 2, No. 55, EDGE JT Tuimuloau, Ohio State

Just a day before the draft, it was rumored that the Chargers are expected to address edge defender in the early rounds. With that in mind, Los Angeles selects Tuimoloau, a player Michigan recruited when Jim Harbaugh was their head coach. While I think this position room would benefit from a speed rusher, this pick is for the long haul, with Khalil Mack and Bud Dupree only having one more year on their contracts. Tuimoloau isn't what you would call overly explosive. However, he is a complete player at the position, possessing powerful hands, an array of pass-rush moves, and enough fluidity and flexibility. He's also one of the better run defenders in this class. With his skill set, I think he will be a solid pro, and one that would be an excellent complement to Tuipulotu.

Round 3, No. 86, WR Tory Horton, Colorado State

The Chargers return to building around Justin Herbert with the selection of Horton. Before suffering a season-ending knee injury this past season, he was on his way to shattering the Mountain West receiving yards career record, coming up just 35 yards shy. In 2023, Horton ranked in the top five in the FBS in catches (96) and first-down receptions (57). Horton isn't as refined in the route-running department, but he’s a solid receiver who can create separation with smooth athleticism and long speed, and has reliable hands to make big plays down the field. Additionally, Horton is a competitive blocker, and would bring special-teams value as a returner and a gunner on punt coverage.
