The AutoZone Liberty Bowl Festival Association announced Tuesday, June 23, that it has elected the president of the 68th AutoZone Liberty Bowl.
Wayne Dowdle, a longtime area football coach and Liberty Bowl board member, has been elected as the association's next president.
"The AutoZone Liberty Bowl is one of the most important and impactful events in Memphis. It shines a positive light on our community each and every year," Dowdle said. "The opportunity to serve the AutoZone Liberty Bowl is a great honor and I look forward to continuing the Bowl's success and its mission of showcasing Memphis and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital through the many year-round events hosted by the Association."
A Memphian and graduate of White Station High School, Dowdle was a standout wide receiver for the University of Memphis Tigers' football team. He has served on several local boards, including the AutoZone Liberty Bowl board and on the board of directors of the Memphis Touchdown Club, appointments that led to his receiving of the AutoZone Liberty Bowl's "Volunteer of the Year" award in 2023.
"Wayne has been a dedicated supporter, volunteer and board member of the AutoZone Liberty Bowl and all our activities for many years," said Executive Director of the AutoZone Liberty Bowl in a statement issued Tuesday afternoon. "We're excited about the experience, enthusiasm and dedication he brings to the AutoZone Liberty Bowl Festival Association."
The association also elected Shone Bynum, Scott Cummins, Malvin Gipson and Kevin Nienhuis as officers for the 2026 Liberty Bowl.
