Asali, an African Elephant at the Memphis Zoo, has her prediction for who will win the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.
The matchup between the Cincinnati Bearcats and the Navy Midshipmen is set for Jan. 2, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. Asali, who turned 40 years old in August, picked Cincinnati to win the game at an event on Dec. 16.
With the help of Bailey, a 10-year-old St. Jude patient and 2025 FedEx Purple Eagle honoree, Asali was tasked with picking between two boxes. The boxes, which were specifically designed by FedEx's packaging lab, each had food in them. One box had the logo of the Cincinnati Bearcats on it, and the other had the Navy Midshipmen logo.
As for why African Elephants were chosen to pick the winner of the Liberty Bowl, Jenny Robertson, senior vice president of global brand and communications at FedEx, had the perfect explanation.
"There's a saying that an elephant never forgets; we're gonna see if elephants can also predict the future," Robertson said.
Bailey, who, as a FedEx Purple Eagle honoree, had a plane in the company's fleet named after her, helped deliver the boxes to Asali.
She also got the chance to interact with the elephant up close. While she was apprehensive at first, Bailey fed Asali treats and carrots with the help of a zookeeper.
