Sam McGuffie WR Rice, Anthony McCloud DT FSU and Kenny Demens LB Michigan fill out the PS.

McGuffie is a versatile slot receiver wh runs in "the 4.3 range." McCloud is a 305-310 lb run stuffing NT who is very strong but little else - don't expect him to rush the passer (other than bull-rushing his man into the backfield). Strictly a one-technique dude. Demens we know.

If I were an NFL Head Coach I'd put guys on the practice squad who could do just that. Help the team practice and wouldn't worry about whether they could ever become a starter because that is so rare.

Thanks, Jeff.

Good to have Kenny Demens on the PS. He had a very good pre-season.

Anthony McCloud was a solid NT at Florida St. Averaged 25 tackles and 2 sacks a year.

Sam McGuffie has 4.37 speed, played the slot at Rice and had a few 100 yard games and a key punt block. Runs the ball too at times.

Has anyone heard why the Cardinals soured on WR Charles Hawkins? Yes, he was small, but dang was he productive and was like 7/11, always open. Leading WR production-wise this pre-season...and the coaches were high on him. BA mentioned him early and then a few times throughout the pre-season.

Seems BASK weren't thrilled with Padric Scott either.

What is Hawkins 40 time? If not 4.37 then that might be the reason.

I don't get it either Mitch, the guy proved he should've been on this years roster. Wasn't he about the same size as TY Hilton? Why this team continues to ignore a D stretcher is mind boggling. IMO he wouldve been a better selection than the likes of Lindley (I don't care if he improved), Potter, Sperry or even Dray who hasn't contributed since he's been a Cardinal.

In the practices that I went to and watched, it was clear that Hawkins was at best the #6 WR behind Brown, Taylor and the Big 3.

Who cares thats practice. When the lights came on in pre season Hawkins easily outplayed Taylor.

Some guys are just gamers.

Some guys are just Pre-Season gamers. Hawkins would be lost in a real NFL game.

You guys and your 4th quarter pre-season WRs!

But Taylor who barely even showed up in pre season is going to be a great one right? ;)

Wow---how do you really know?

What I loved about him is that the QBs targeted him more than any other WR---that says a lot. His game versus Green Bay was outstanding and his game versus the Broncos, again, right up there.

Did you hear Wolf raving about him?

I think Bucky hit it on the head when he likened Hawkins to T.Y. Hilton.

Hawkins wasn't merely playing in mop-up time either.

I don't understand how he at least didn't earn a PS spot.

In practices that I went and watched he had a couple of drops that I saw. He also fumbled the ball during the Packers game. I think he might have small hands which could be the reason the Cardinals didn't put him on the practice squad with Taylor.

I don't consider the practice squad the team...
You will should we run into a rash of injuries at a given position and can promote a PS player to the regular roster.

Specifically I'm thinking about WR should one or more of our 4 guys were to go down. Or if one or more of our NT's (a physically taxing position) were to get injured.

I definitely think we're warehousing Moch (in case Abraham were to go down). It would have been nice if we could find an available TE to stockpile and groom.

Regarding McGuffie vs. Hawkins - I'd be inclined to trust Keim and the scouting dept. They must have seen something more in McGuffie (maybe more versatility - that he was better at more things).

In my book if you are not on the 53 man roster then you are not on the team.

If we get hit with a rash of injuries and have to call up players from the practice squad then we are already in a world of hurt. To me practice squad players are young guys who are still too raw for real NFL action. You stash young guys there with the hope that in a year or two they might develop into a decent cheap backup.
