Pottsville Curse

Cardinals can’t figure out what’s gone wrong; maybe it’s the Pottsville Curse. I think it’s time to get rid of it, just in time for the 2026 season!

Apparently, Pottsville residents believe the curse ‘will only be lifted’ when the Bidwills return the NFL title to Pottsville. The latest proposal in 2003 would have allowed the Maroons and Cardinals to share the championship, but the Bidwill family rejected the idea. Why not return a 1925 title? What’s the big deal?

One has to wonder. Pottsville is located in Pennsylvania, and the Cardinals miraculously lost their only Super Bowl to a Pennsylvania team, the Steelers.

The curse is having Bidwill as owner. I look at the 9-2 Broncos and think if only we had an owner who pulled out the stops to hire Sean Payton we might be 9-2….

And they won a championship in 1947, so there cannot really be a curse (as in no more championships after the one in 1925).

Both teams cheated so it shouldn’t be Pottsville’s championship either.

Payton working for Bidwill? Not enough money in the world. You need to study the history. No proven NFL HC not on the down slide like Green will work for Bidwill. Pass the doobie please. I see no more NFL championships so lets not giveaway 1925. Be proud of it.

…believers say the curse's true power manifested after the 1947 win, and the Bidwill family's repeated refusal (in the 1960s and again in 2003) to cede the 1925 title back to Pottsville isn’t reassuring. Anyway, what's so important about a 1925 title? Why not end the controversy (for decades) and move on? The Cardinals would be better off imo.

I think the solution is the NFL should force Bidwill to sell the team to the NFL with each owner paying their share of the selling price. The franchise should then be revoked with an expansion team awarded to Arizona. The NFL would vet the selection process for new ownership and when an owner was picked a new name and colors could be picked. Bidwill has to be an embarrassment to the owners. Bidwill does not promote a positive image for the NFL. St. Louis which is the other victim of the Bidwill's should be awarded an expansion franchise too. Only if St. Louis comes up with a better name than the Battlehawks. Little known fact I think is there was a St. Louis politician who offered to buy the Patriots that were up for sell and swap franchises with Bidwill to give the Big Red a new local owner. Bidwill said no. Imagine the change in Patriots fortunes with Bidwill as owner?

And the Cardinals are still a topic for discussion in Pottsville. If the Bidwills have a change of heart and return the title, the franchise may become a winner. — Think of the PR move, the pomp and fanfare; Bidwills return lost 1925 title to Pottsville!
