Aaron Judge is in the midst of perhaps the most historic hitting streak for any major league player in the 21st century. The Yankees' captain is averaging an otherworldly .414 through 132 plate appearances in 2025.

Judge has 55 hits to his name this season and has a WAR of 3.0 through just 35 games. Judge is slashing .414/.503/.759, and his OPS of 1.263 is the highest of his career. He is leading the MLB in OPS+ for a second straight year at a whopping 263 so far.

The 33-year-old already has 11 home runs for the season, and is on pace to match or better his Yankees record 62 home runs in 2022.

The Yankees are in the middle of a three-game series against the Padres. They dropped their first game 3-4 at Yankee Stadium against San Diego, who have the second-best record in the majors.

Although Judge failed to register a hit in the first game, the reigning home run king's purple patch will undoubtedly cause of concern for Padres pitcher Michael King. The former Yankees ace will be pitching to Judge for the first time in his major league career.

Speaking to the press ahead of the second game, Michael King expressed his awe at Judge's recent run:

“Usually, you can see some holes in hitters. But since the guy is hitting .450 with a whatever OPS, he doesn’t have too many holes.”

One of Aaron Judge's major shortcomings over the years has been his propensity to swing and miss on balls outside the strike zone. However, he has kept this failing to a low this year. His strikeout percentage of 20.3% is the best figure of his career.

“He’s so big and [far] off the plate, you think you can get him that way,” King said. “But because he’s so long, he can get to that pitch away but because he’s so quick, he can get to the pitch in. He has great pitch recognition. He’s one of the best hitters in the game, so you expect that.”

King, who was an All-MLB Second Team selection in 2024, will undoubtedly have his task cut out today. While watching thousands of practice swings by Judge through his four MLB seasons with the Yankees could be of help, he is going up against the best right-handed hitter of the generation.
